Last month, three athletes from the High Performance Martial Arts School in Carmel returned from the 2015 National Taekwondo Championships in Austin, Texas. Jamey Clark, 7, Sarah Kolpe, 11 and Anthony Golden, 18, all competed in a variety of events for the High Performance Martial Arts School.

Clark competed in Poomsae, Board Breaking and Sparring events. In Poomsae, she placed 11th out of 19 competitors. She won third place out of 10 in Board Breaking. Clark’s last event was Sparring. She won the first and second round in her event.

Her coaches, Candice White and Andrew White, said they are extremely proud of her efforts and third place in Board Breaking.

Sarah Kolp competed in Poomsae events and placed third, taking home a bronze medal for the High Performance Martial Arts School.

This year was Golden’s first year competing in the Senior Division. This division has students ranging from 18-32 years old. Golden made it all the way to Quarter Finals, which was only a fight away from the medal stand.

“Anthony is on the young side and still has several years to grow as an athlete before hitting his prime,” stated Candice and Andrew.

The High Performance Martial Arts students competed in five divisions with an opportunity to win five medals. The team came home with three medals, 60 percent of the total possible medals they could earn within their divisions.

The three athletes have already started training for next year’s National Taekwondo Championships.

“We are very proud of our athletes’ hard work and dedication,” their coaches stated. “We are already looking forward to nationals next year.”
