When it comes to a place to call home, Zionsville tops the list in Indiana according to the latest information compiled by HomeSnacks, an online publication that uses recent data, unemployment rates, education, housing costs and other information to compile the rankings.

“We used science and data to determine which places in the Hoosier State are the cream of the crop,” said HomeSnacks contributor Nick Johnson. “While there are some great spots in Indiana, some are just better than others. Of course, science doesn’t measure beauty and friendly smiles. All we look at are the hard numbers.”

After analyzing 101 of the state’s most populous cities, HomeSnacks put together the top 10 list.

“Zionsville has made an effort to preserve its small town feel, friendly environment, and rich history through careful growth,” Mayor Jeff Papa said. “We are blessed with many attributes that contribute to this, including an excellent school system and highly-educated population.”

The article cites Zionsville’s resident income as the seventh highest in the state.

“Two elements are keys to this – the first is that having an excellent school system means people want to live here and our children receive quality educations. The second is having job opportunities available in areas which require a highly educated and skilled workforce,” Papa said. “The town and other entities, like the Zionsville Chamber of Commerce, have made a concerted effort to make sure that more of these types of opportunities are available. “

Low crime numbers – the ninth lowest in the state according to data HomeSnacks pulled from the FBI – is another factor in the town’s ranking. Papa said he’s not surprised.

“The Zionsville Police Department and the Boone County Sheriff’s Office take their work very seriously and are a huge part of why Zionsville is considered so safe,” he said.

Papa said, when it comes down to it, it’s a blend of several factors that entices people to move to Zionsville – and want to stay.

“The opportunities are amazing, the schools are outstanding, and we have a small-town community where a friendly, welcoming atmosphere prevails in a safe environment,” he said. “It’s really a very special and unique place.”
