Update: This event has been postponed until Sept. 12 due to the weather forecast for July 11.

It’s almost time again for the annual Boone County Charity Polo match and this year the event will offer something new – free pony rides for children.

The match is set for 1 p.m. July 11 at the Hall Polo Club just north of Zionsville. Gates will open at 11 a.m. The event benefits Boone County Senior Services, Inc. and Witham Health Services Foundation.

“Last year the event raised nearly $22,000 to benefit healthcare projects in the community as well as enriching services to help older adults remain independent,” said Anita Bowen, executive director, Boone County Senior Services. “Proceeds not only come from the box/ticket sales, but from our Silent Auction that takes place that day, too. We will have a variety of items featured in the auction tent including theme baskets, sporting event tickets, horse-related items, restaurant gift certificates, electronic items and much more.”

Highlights in addition to the polo match include the Polo Box Decorating Contest where companies, families and friends decorate their “box” (tent) area based on a theme from western to racing to shabby chic.

“It is really fun to see what they will come up with to top last year’s. Anonymous judges walk around the field to visit each tent and come up with a winner,” Bowen said. “Those judges are also looking for the Best Dressed/Pretty Woman at the event. Many guests come in their best Derby-style attire and that is what the judges are looking for. Yet, if you just want to come comfortable to enjoy the beautiful setting at Hickory Hall Polo Club to simply enjoy something different this summer, a comfy pair of shorts and a t-shirt are just fine, too.”

Besides the free pony rides by Blue River Carriage Company, other activities for children include face painting, plane races and a frozen treat at half time.

“We are always looking to make this Polo Event include something for everyone and that means looking for ways to keep the children entertained,” Bowen said.

General admission is $20 per car. Sponsorships, which include a VIP Box are also available for $1,000, Royal Sponsor; $500 – Gold Sponsor; and $250 Silver Sponsor.
