Darrin’s Coffee is in negotiations to stay in Zionsville and is moving forward with plans to open another location in Broad Ripple.

Originally concerned that he would need to leave Zionsville as the lease on the Main Street location had not been renewed, owner Darrin Marion hopes to launch a new co-working concept with his coffee shop in front and collaborative workspace in a separate area. Marion plans to sell donuts and pastries as well.

The Zionsville property he would like to sublease is at the corner of Main and Oak

Streets, just a few doors away from his current location.

“The Swacks (building owners) are helping this deal along by making sure that this is the best move for the overall health of Main Street,” Marion said. “They’ve been very flexible in finding a good solution to give me a long term lease to let the business grow.”

The local coffee shop will expand in Broad Ripple by early fall and be part of a new co-working space on Guilford Avenue with dedicated parking and day-passes available. The concept is similar – a coffee house in front with co-working in a separate area. Day-passes will also be offered at the Zionsville location.

Paul Kite is serving as an advisor and will help open the business in Broad Ripple.

The nearly 3000-square-foot property in Zionsville is expected to be open by early June.

The co-working area will take longer to establish.

“I want to get the coffee going first,” he said.

The waiting list and success of zWORKS and the location of The Speak Easy co-working space made Marion feel that there is still demand in both areas.

Marion expressed gratitude to his customers who have encouraged him to stay in town.

“It shows how supportive the community is,” he said.

He’s relieved that he can move forward knowing better what the future holds.

“I have a thousand conversations a day,” said Marion. “‘Where are you going?’”

Marion will also continue to sell his coffee at the Zionsville Farmer’s Market.

“That’s how my kids make their allowance,” he said. “It’s performance based.”
