The committee is currently led by Chairman, CPT Jason Reyes, who is currently on active duty at DFAS a Business Continuity Planner.
In the past two years, the ASMC Military Committee has hosted a Christmas Breakfast for the troops, a Christmas for the Troops gift drive which provided four military families win need with gifts, an annual Veterans luncheon in November, and two golf outings annually raising money and providing awareness for local veterans organizations to name a few.
This past golf outing on May 8, was to raise money and awareness for Save Our Veterans, Inc., a a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana. Save Our Veterans provides skills training, educational opportunities, and paths to employment and housing. Save Our Veterans has proudly served hundreds of Veterans throughout the United States. The money raised at the golf outing was to help provide funds to purchase welding machines for the facility.
The golf outing had a turnout of 80 golfers, as well as various sponsors such as Donatos Pizza, Financial Center Federal Credit Union, “Homes for Heroes” Talk to Tucker Homes, David Weekley Homes, Landon Mortgage, and Village Dentistry to name a few, which raised more than $3200.00 in donations.
Victor Wakley, is the Founder and President of Save Our Veterans. He founded Save Our Veterans back in 2009, when his nephew returned from the Iraq War. His nephew returned home not the same and suffered from PTSD.
Victor helped secure employment for his nephew in the construction business and began to see a change in his attitude and behavior. He noticed his nephew formed strong bonds with all the other veterans from current and past wars on the job site. Victor learned first hand quickly his nephew was able to reintegrate into society through the shared veteran bond of his fellow workers. After that experience, Save Our Veterans was created.
