Interested in a fun family night out at the movies without spending a small fortune?

Fishers Parks & Recreation’s Movies in the Park has returned to the Nickel Plate District amphitheater this spring, offering wallet-friendly entertainment for all ages each Friday night.

“Movies are free for the public to attend and a great way for families all of ages to get outdoors and do something together in the heart of our community,” said Casey Cawthon, marketing and public relations manager for the Town of Fishers. “Some of the newest movies are being shown, and movies offer a great affordable night out in Fishers.”

This Friday, the amphitheater will show “Gnomeo and Juliet.” Other upcoming movies include:

“Planes – Fire and Rescue” – May 1
“The Boxtrolls” – May 8
“Dolphin Tale 2” – May 15
“Earth to Echo” – May 22
“Big Hero 6” – May 29

“The movies are great for all ages and all ability levels,” Cawthon said. Your children may enjoy some movies more than others, so we always encourage parents to visit www.Fishers.in.us/Movies and learn more about movies they’re unfamiliar with.”

In addition, Cawthon noted, the Nickel Plate District offers an alternate venue for children who may not be interested in sitting for the entire movie.

Sponsored by XFINITY, movies are shown in closed caption and begin at sunset. Families may bring blankets, chairs and their favorite movie snacks, and are encouraged to arrive early to choose where they want to sit.

The City of Fishers’ G.I.V.E. Committee (Generosity, Involvement and Volunteerism by Employees) will sell candy, popcorn and soft drinks during the show.

“Each year the G.I.V.E. Committee raises funds and awareness for different charities, and does this through fundraising at events,” Cawthon said. “Selling concessions during Movies in the Park is one way that the G.I.V.E. committee fundraises.”
