James M. ‘Jim’ Vernon, 88, of Noblesville, died March 15, 2015 at Riverview Health in Noblesville. Born Sept. 8, 1926 in Clarksville, he was the son of William ‘Bill’ and Edith (Lehr) Vernon.

He was a 1944 graduate of Noblesville High School and served in the U.S. Army post World War II. Before retirement, he was owner and operator of Vernon Oil Company, Inc. He was a member of the Scottish Rite, as well as a 50-year member of Noblesville Masonic Lodge No. 57.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Margaret A. (Maggie) Vernon; sons, Butch (Nancy) Vernon, Tom Vernon and Bob (Mandy) Vernon; daughters, Candy Williams, Connie (Dan) Chase and Ann (Lee) Barnes; grandchildren, Carrie Tipton, Celli Williams Spencer, Sarah Fannin, Chandler and Ryan Barnes, Mila and Maddie Vernon, Ivy and Zoe Vernon and Chalynne Johnson; and great grandchildren, Brady and Briana Spencer and Isla Fannin.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, June Shirley.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. March 23 at Randall & Roberts Funeral Center, 1685 Westfield Rd., Noblesville, with the Rev. Steve Fair officiating. Visitation is 2 to 5 p.m. March 22 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Indianapolis.
