Indy Eleven Professional Soccer Owner Ersal Ozdemir will speak during the Indiana Latino Student Legislative Summit today at the Indiana Statehouse. Nearly 170 Indiana high school students will participate in the summit.

Ozdemir will discuss current efforts to build a proposed 18,500-seat multipurpose stadium for soccer as well as other sports and entertainment events in downtown Indianapolis. He is responsible for establishing professional soccer in the Hoosier State with the founding of Indy Eleven, a team in the North American Soccer League, in 2013. During its inaugural season, Indy Eleven played every home game to a sold-out crowd of nearly 10,500 fans and led the growing NASL in attendance. Soccer continues to surge in popularity across the United States and is far and away the most popular sport amongst the country’s growing Latino population.

“Since these students are our future leaders, I’m excited to share with them my experiences and my vision for soccer’s role in Indiana in the decades to come,” said Ozdemir. “The proposed multipurpose stadium will provide multiple economic benefits to the state, including keeping and attracting young, talented people to want to live and work here.”

The annual Indiana Latino Student Legislative Summit provides an opportunity to high school students to learn more about state government. Students participate in a mock legislative session as well as hear from state elected officials. This year’s summit also features Governor Mike Pence and Lieutenant Governor Sue Ellspermann.

Ozdemir, who has 17 years in the construction and commercial real estate industry, owns various Keystone companies. He earned his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Purdue University. He also is an avid community supporter who serves on multiple boards, some of which include the Indianapolis Museum of Art, the Children’s Bureau, Indy Chamber of Commerce, Greater Indianapolis Progress Committee, University of Indianapolis, the Indiana Chamber of Commerce, the Center for the Performing Arts and the North American Soccer League.
