Geist is welcoming a new neighbor in the retail center at Brooks School and Fall Creek. Moody Meats, well known throughout the state for their fresh, locally-sourced, grass-fed meats, opened a butcher shop at 10106 Brooks School Rd. Owner Adam Moody has four other locations in Indiana and was looking to expand to the Geist area.
Moody, a fifth generation farmer, started the business in 1997 when he realized in order to survive he needed to control the market. In 2000, he purchased a processing facility in Lagoda, Ind. Always looking to increase business, Moody brought on Nick Carter of Meat the Rabbit, a local game distributor. Carter co-owns the Geist location.
Their butcher shop can custom cut meat directly to order unlike grocery stores. The quality of their product is what sets them apart according to Carter.
“We focus on quality and customer service. We only source locally grown meats so all of our meat comes from the Midwest, which means we know it’s grass-fed. We know how it’s raised. We can actually be choosy about the meats we put in our cases,” Carter said.
The butcher shops not only sell meats but other local fares, as well. Guests can purchase potato chips, milk, eggs, honey and sauces. They plan on introducing new products for the Easter holiday.
Moody Meats does not label their meat organic but they like to say their product is beyond organic.
“We are more interested in the production method that’s not just the matter of what chemicals are used but a care for the animal. Knowing we have farmers who care for the animal,” Carter said. “We’re more focused on number one, that it’s local. That we’re helping our local economy and what is nice that goes with that is we know how animals are raised locally.”
The Geist location is open Tuesday through Friday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Why retail locations are closed on Sundays: The well being of the staff is a high priority for Moody and he believes Sundays are a day for rest and families.
Locations: There are currently five locations throughout the state in Avon, Zionsville, Geist, Center Grove and Lagoda.
