Dr. Kimberly Harper of Family Care Chiropractic is participating in the Doctors with a Heart program. From Feb. 9-13, Family Care Chiropractic will donate services valued at $345 for a $49.95 donation to the Kentuckiana Children’s Center. Included in the donation fee is a new patient consultation, exam, and xrays.

“Many people may not be aware that children can and do get chiropractic care. Like dentistry, we’ve learned that early check-ups can prevent adult spinal problems,” said Dr. Kimberly Harper.  During a chiropractic exam, the doctor is checking for a vertebral subluxation.

“A subluxation is when the small joints in the back slightly misalign causing nerve irritation. When the nerve isn’t functioning correctly it can result in symptoms related to organs, muscles and systems of the body. A chiropractor gently moves the vertebra back into place, allowing the body improve its function, resulting in a better expression of health,” said Harper.

Misalignments happen in children because the spine is rapidly developing during the first 10 years of life, and it is highly affected by the falls and injuries that are common in these years.

Harper decided to donate funds raised to the Kentuckiana Children’s Center because of its ongoing emphasis on special programs individually designed to help the child with special needs.

“The center cares for children regardless of the family’s ability to pay and has done some really ground breaking work. We are participating with other offices across the nation to donate our new patient services for a donation to the center during the week of Feb 9th-13th and we would love to get the word out so people can be part of this awesome event if they choose to,” said Harper.
