Letter: Why Zionsville should reorganize

0

Editor,

The Town of Zionsville and Perry Township have the opportunity to reorganize into a new Town of Zionsville as a result of this November’s election. Not only is this an exciting opportunity to streamline local government, Indiana’s reorganization law affords us the opportunity to elect a full-time Mayor without the expensive and cumbersome requirement of incorporating the Town into a city.

Many in our community agree that we need a continued focus on diversifying our property tax base to ensure our schools, police and fire protection remain strong without over-taxing residential property owners. The recent addition of the FedEx distribution center and groundbreaking of Lids Corporate Headquarters are prime examples of businesses that diversify our tax base, taking pressure off home owners.

This responsible and thoughtful growth would not have been possible without the visionary leadership of Town Council, Town Staff, various commissions and committees, and a variety of local community leaders.

In an effort to continue our responsible growth, the time has come to add the position of a Mayor. A Mayor who is accountable to Zionsville voters will help lead a stronger Zionsville by committing him or herself to the best-interests of our Town on a full-time basis.

Please support our Town Council’s vision of a reorganization and the addition of a Mayor by voting yes on the reorganization. The reorganization will strengthen the community and lead us further down the path toward sustainable long term growth. I encourage you to reach out to community leaders and do your part to make this vision a reality.

Nathan Frampton

Chairman, Citizens of a Better Zionsville and President of Fanimation
