City council approves new subdivision in northwest Carmel

Staff report

The Carmel City Council approved a new subdivision at its meeting June 2. And this one will be in its lightly populated northwest corner.

Builder Pulte Homes plans to construct the Bear Creek Subdivision with 93 homes on about 72 acres of land southeast of the intersection of 146th Street and Little Eagle Creek Avenue.

The homes, which would occupy an average lot of about 0.77 acres, are slated to sell in the range of $375,000 to $550,000.

The proposed Planned-Unit Development received a favorable recommendation from the Carmel Plan Commission in April, and no member of the public spoke against the new subdivision during the May 5 city council meeting.

The lawyer for the developer said the goal is to begin construction this summer.

City Councilor Rick Sharp, whose district encompasses that part of the city, said the development isn’t out of character with the area.

This would be the second new subdivision in West Carmel that the city has approved this year.
