Staff report

Carmel High School students Cole Stark, left. and Michael Muldowney, right, recently were awarded the C-SPAN StudentCam Award, which came with a $1,000 award for the two to split.

Each year, students are asked to submit a short documentary that focuses on an assigned topic by C-SPAN. This year’s topic was “What issue do you believe the U.S.Congress should address in 2014, and explain why you believe the issue is of importance.”

Nationally, there were more than 2,300 entries and each year Bright House Networks awards a local winner of the CSPAN StudentCam.

The local winning entry showed great creativity, video skills and initiative educating the public on the topic they chose.

Cole and Michael’s video focused on gerrymandering, which refers to attempts to establish a political advantage for a particular party or group by manipulating boundaries for political offices.

CHS will also receive $1,000 to use towards video or technology equipment.
