The office of Congresswoman Susan W. Brooks (R-Indiana) is now accepting entries for the 2014 Congressional Art Competition. Once again, a student from Indiana’s 5th District will have his or her artwork displayed in a United States Capitol hallway visited by thousands of policy makers and tourists each year.

“The Congressional Art Competition provides students a chance to design and create a piece of art that reflects their unique perspectives as both individuals and artists,” Brooks stated. “It’s a great way to provide a new generation of aspiring artists a chance to earn valuable recognition and experience. As a mother, I remember the pride and joy that my children gained from competitions similar to this one. I encourage 5th District students to take advantage of this tremendous opportunity and can’t wait to see the great pieces they submit.”

Artwork must be two-dimensional and no larger than 28” x 28” x 4”, including the frame. Artwork cannot weigh more than 15 pounds and must represent one of the following mediums:

• Paintings – including oil, acrylics and watercolor

• Drawings – including pastels, colored pencil, pencil, charcoal, ink and markers

• Collage

• Prints – including lithographs, silkscreen and block prints

• Mixed Media

• Computer Generated Art

• Photography

All entries must be original in concept, design and execution. They must be submitted to either the Congresswoman’s Carmel or Anderson office no later than 5 p.m. April 25.  Office locations and phone numbers can be found at www.susanwbrooks.house.gov/contact/offices.

Along with being displayed in the U.S. Capitol Building for one year, the winner and one guest will receive complimentary airfare to Washington D.C. for recognition at an annual awards ceremony. Honorable mentions may also be selected for display in Brooks’ district offices.

The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982 to provide an opportunity for members of Congress to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of their young constituents.
