Carmel High School senior Vic Roe will represent the United States as part of the American Football Worldwide ELITE team in a game against the national U19 team of France scheduled to take place in Paris on March 29.
This past fall, Roe played defensive line and served as team captain as he helped lead coach Kevin Wright’s squad to a 10-4 record, finishing as runner-up in the state 6A playoffs.
As a senior, Roe recorded 33 solo tackles, 15 assisted tackles, nine tackles for losses and two sacks.
As a junior, he was named to the Indiana Football Coaches Association All-State Football Team, as well as the Hamilton County Honor Team. This season, Roe was selected to the IFCA, Associated Press, and Indiana Football Digest Big School All-State Football Teams, the Indy Super Star Team and was honored with the Indiana High School Athletic Association Phil N. Eskew Mental Attitude Award.
“This will be my last football game as a player, and I am honored to play that game in France as a representative of the United States of America,” Roe said. “During college at Indiana University-Bloomington, I hope to spend some time studying abroad. This trip allows me to begin that process, learning more about life in other countries of the world.”
This game brings together graduating high school seniors of the United States to compete against the French team in what will be a rematch of last year’s inaugural game. Last year’s trip not only marked the first time a scholastic team from the United States competed on French soil, but also the first time one traveled overseas to play against a national team that had qualified for the World Championships of American Football.
