IU Health orthopedic surgeon Dr. R. Michael Meneghini was recently recognized in Orthopedics This Week’s list of the Top 22 North American Knee SurgeonsThe featured surgeons—billed by the publication as “the super elite in the knee world”—were selected based on survey responses from thought leaders in the field of orthopedic surgery. According to the publication, “When knee surgeons discuss their exemplary colleagues, these are the ones they are talking about.”

The Orthopedics This Week article announcing the top knee surgeons described Dr. Meneghini as “a leader in the field of adult reconstruction who is actively involved in research and teaching and has published several landmark articles on hip and knee arthroplasty.” While a handful of the 22 surgeons represent some of the nation’s leading orthopedics programs, Dr. Meneghini is among the few on the list who practice at one of the 18 nationally ranked health systems listed on U.S. News and World Report’s prestigious 2013-2014 “Honor Roll.”

Dr. Meneghini, who is also a member of the prestigious Knee Society—an exclusive group of the nation’s top knee surgeons—is a board-certified and fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon with IU Health Physicians Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, who specializes in adult hip and knee reconstruction. His practice includes total hip and knee replacement, cementless and partial knee replacement, hip impingement and dysplasia as well as minimally invasive surgical techniques. Dr. Meneghini is an educator who leads Indiana’s only joint replacement fellowship program and lectures across the country, teaching other surgeons. He is also an active researcher who has authored more than 55 scientific articles on hip and knee replacement.

Dr. Meneghini and his fellow orthopedic specialists at IU Health perform more than 3,500 joint replacement surgeries annually. They are also well-versed in advanced surgical techniques and technologies designed to prolong the life and durability of knee replacements and allow patients to enjoy more active lifestyles.

A Terre Haute native, Dr. Meneghini earned his undergraduate degree in civil engineering from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, attended Indiana University School of Medicine and received his residency training in orthopedic surgery from Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. Following residency he completed a fellowship in adult hip and knee reconstruction at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
