Hamilton County 4-H program to host open house

The 2014 4-H enrollment deadline is March 1. You must re-enroll every year. Contact the Purdue Extension Hamilton County Office at 776-0854 for more information or to enroll. Information and online enrollment is also available on our website at: www.ag.purdue.edu/counties/hamilton.

4-H will also host a call-out and open house from 2 to 4 p.m. Feb. 9 at the Exhibition Center, Hall C, on the 4-H Fairgrounds in Noblesville. For more information call 776-0854.

The open house is for people who:

● are you interested in 4-H but have some questions

● want to enroll in 4-H but don’t know how

● would like to get the answers you need in an hour or less

4-H is an informal educational program where children and teens “learn by doing.” Kids in grades 3 through 12 can learn life skills such as cooperation, leadership, decision-making, responsibility and more through hands-on projects in over 65 different subject areas. It’s a great opportunity to develop a hobby, experience camp, make new friends, and promote family togetherness.

Scholarship opportunities also available

● Ruth B. Sayres Scholarship for Women

The Indiana Extension Homemakers Association is offering a $500 scholarship sponsored by County Women’s Council, USA. The Ruth B. Sayres Memorial Scholarship is offered for the purpose of fostering the educational development of women. The scholarship is offered to women who wish to further their education, show a financial need and a potential for leadership. Applications are available at the local County Extension Service Office throughout the state.

Applications are due Feb. 15.

● Continuing Education Scholarships

The Indiana Extension Homemakers Association awards eight Career Advancement Scholarships of $500 each to Indiana women aged 25 and over who wish to further their education, leadership, and community volunteerism by completing their education or upgrading vocational skills. IEHA Scholarship applications are available at the local County Extension Service Office throughout the state.

Applications are due March 15 to the State Committee.

● Health and Human Science Scholarships

The Hamilton County Extension Homemakers Association is offering four $500 scholarships to Hamilton County students who major in a Health and Human Sciences related field such as: Foods and Nutrition; Hospitality and Tourism Management; Child Development and Family Studies; Family and Consumer Science Education; Consumer Science and Retailing; Nursing; Fitness and Health; Athletic Training; Exercise Science; Speech, Language and Hearing or Health Sciences. Scholarships are offered to graduating seniors or undergraduate students. Past winners must reapply each year.

Applications are due March 1.
