Staff report

Organizers of this musical extravaganza announced that online registration for porches, musicians and volunteers is now open at www.carmelporchfest.com.

Carmel PorchFest is a new event that will be conducted Sept. 14 and will bring live music from local musicians to porches located in the Arts and Design District.

There are three ways to get involved in this effort:

Donate your talent
Carmel PorchFest is looking for local musical groups, singers, bands, artists and entertainers to perform at least one 40-minute set of music. All ages and styles of music are welcome and encouraged.

Donate your porch
Carmel’s first PorchFest will be held on porches (or front yards) of houses located on 1st Ave NW and 2nd Ave NW (Monon Trail to Range Line Road) along with 1st through 8th Streets NW. A map is located online. All homeowners in this designated area are encouraged to apply using the Porch Host application.

Donate your time
No community event can be successful without a strong corps of volunteers. In addition to volunteers to help with logistics on the day of the event, Carmel PorchFest is also looking to recruit an active street team of high school and college students to help promote the event all summer.

“We’re really hoping to make this event something special,” Carmel Mayor Jim Brainard said in a statement. “With the depth of local musical talent combined with our strong community pride, we think this grassroots event is going to be very popular with our residents and visitors.”

Carmel PorchFest will be a family-friendly event that is free and open to the public.
