James David Cowan, 72, formerly of Noblesville, died on Dec. 27, 2013 near his home in Glidden, Wis. Born March 11, 1941 in Columbus, Mo., he was the son of the late James Jett and Leona Cowan.

Cowan was a former Noblesville Firestone Industrial Products Plant employee of several years, and worked numerous years at the Martin Marietta Aggregates Quarry in Lapel, Stony Creek Stone Company in Noblesville, and Marquit in Phillips, Wis. He fulfilled his dream and moved north in 1991 to what he called “God’s Country,” in Glidden. A passionate nature lover, he enjoyed the daily blessings the animals brought to him as they navigated through his wooded property.

Survivors include his wife, Kay Russell Cowan; children, John (Carol) Cowan, Michele Cardwell, Charles (Keiko) Cowan, Tina Cowan Bryant and Debby (Kent) Findlay; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Jan. 4 at Randall & Roberts Funeral Center, 1685 Westfield Rd., Noblesville, with the Rev. Stanley R. Sutton officiating. Burial followed at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Indianapolis.
