COM-Meet your teacher Bailey

Grade/School: Kindergarten, Oak Trace Elementary

Background/Schooling: Yorktown High School; bachelor’s in elementary education with a kindergarten endorsement, Ball State University; and masters in elementary education with endorsements in kindergarten and reading, Butler University.

Why did you become a teacher? I did not go to preschool. I went to my first day of kindergarten and fell in love with school and my teacher. My mom tells me that I came home from my first day of kindergarten and told her that I was going to be a kindergarten teacher when I grew up. I never changed my mind.

What goals do you have for your students? Kindergarten is their first school experience so I feel that it is important that my students gain a love for school and learning. I also want them to build a strong foundation of skills, and to become independent learners.

What do you encourage your parents to do at home to help their children? Read to them. It is so important!

What is your favorite movie? “Sound of Music”

Who is your favorite musician or band? I don’t have a favorite band, but I love to listen to music from the ’70s and ’80s while I work out.

What’s something your students might not know about you? I have fast fingers! I won an award for the fastest typist in my high school, and I think I still hold the record at 80 words per minute.
