Special thanks to CHS administrators

Editor,

On Sept. 13, our son attended the Carmel High School/Lawrence Central football game at Lucas Oil Stadium with some friends and another mom. During the game, he had a potentially life-threatening allergic reaction and was quickly transported by ambulance to Riley Hospital. Because my husband and I were not there, school administrators who were at the game were notified. While one accompanied him in the ambulance, another called to keep us abreast of the situation.

When I arrived at the Riley Emergency Room, I was astonished to be met by five CHS administrators: Principal John Williams, Assistant Principal Amy Skeens-Benton, Assistant Principal C.J. Glander, Assistant Principal Karen McDaniel and school resource officer Sgt. Phil Hobson. I was overwhelmed by the concern and personal attention paid to my son by these individuals. Parents are quick to point out when our school staff falls short, but we rarely take the time to recognize when they perform beyond the call of duty. Until now, my husband and I took for granted their presence at evening and weekend school events and never considered that they are essentially “on duty” during these events. We will not soon forget their efforts to ensure our son’s safety and comfort during a very scary situation.
