Getting a child to sit still long enough for a photo can be tough enough. Add in the frustration of trying to get that perfect action shot, and you just might swear off photography forever.
But don’t fret. There a new course in Carmel that can help amateur photographers capture all the frame-able moments in a child’s life.
Capturing Childhood: A Photo Class for Moms is geared toward helping the everyday photographer learn the best techniques for getting the pictures they want using a digital camera.
“It’s not about taking portraits or replacing professional photography services – it’s about capturing the everyday moments in life and learning how to tackle challenges like movement, focus and lighting,” said Beth Buddenbaum, general manger for Indy Photo. “We want to help moms learn how use their camera so they aren’t ending up with photos they can’t frame. This is a sort of back-to-basics class – parents don’t want to take a lighting class – just learn how to take really good pictures of their kids.”
The course instructor, Danielle Thompson, is a lifestyle photographer with two young girls. Buddenbaum said she understands the unique challenges of photographing children.
The four-week course will be conducted on Mondays from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Oct. 7 through Oct. 28. The first three classes will be at Blu Moon Café, 200 S. Range Line Rd. The final class will be at Founders Park at 116th Street and Hazel Dell Parkway.
“It’s like a big play date. The parents bring their children and get to take pictures of them in action,” Buddenbaum said. “And, instead of standing there not know what setting to use to capture their child running by, there is someone there to help them work through that process.”
