A local business is now the newest sponsor of the Humane Society of Hamilton County’s Pets Healing Vets program.

According to a news release, the Paws & Play Dog Resort & Training Center, 133rd Place, Fishers, is sponsoring the program that benefits qualifying veterans. Pets Healing Vets matches a Hoosier veteran returning from active duty and experiencing Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or Traumatic Brain Injury symptoms with a cat or dog that needs a home and meets his or her needs.

“We understand the sacrifices that a military person and their families make for the Unites States of America,” Brad Bennett, a veteran and owner of Paws & Play stated. “Dogs are a large part of our lives. We want to support an amazing program that brings veterans and dogs together to help each live the best life possible.”

For an honorably-discharged veteran to be eligible for a pairing with a pooch or feline, he or she must complete an adoption application, as well as supply “a letter from their mental health professional indicating they suffer from PTSD or TBI and would benefit from the program,” according to the release.

The adoption is free, along with training support and future animal medical care “as funds are available.”
