A two vehicle accident sent one motorist to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries on Aug. 22.

At 1:33 p.m., Noblesville police officers responded to 16685 Mercantile Blvd. in regards to a report of a motor vehicle accident involving serious injury. A short time later, officers arrived on the scene and located the two vehicles involved.

Lt. Bruce Barnes stated that based on preliminary information, a 2008 Ford Ranger pickup, driven by Arthur Gatewood, Jr., 85, of Fortville was traveling westbound across Mercantile Blvd. just prior to the crash.

“Witness statements and evidence at the scene suggest that Gatewood was leaving the parking lot of Home Depot when he pulled into the path of a motor scooter that was traveling southbound on Mercantile Blvd.,” Barnes stated.

The 2011 TaoToa Future Champion motor scooter was being driven by Deanna L. Condry, 38 of Noblesville. Condry was transported to I.U. Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis by ambulance with non life-threatening injuries.

Barnes stated that Gatewood did not report any injuries as a result of the crash. There were no passengers in his vehicle or the motor scooter at the time of the crash.

Members of the NPD Accident Reconstruction Unit were called to the scene to investigate. A portion of Mercantile Blvd. was closed until approximately 3:30 p.m. as investigators collected data and evidence at the scene.

“The cause of the crash is still under investigation at this time; however, it does not appear that alcohol or weather played a factor in the crash,” Barnes stated.
