SCI students to donate hopeful artwork to St.Vincent cancer patients

Today at 11 a.m. students from Sand Creek Intermediate School will donate works of art with messages of hope to those battling cancer at the St.Vincent Breast Center, 8550 Naab Rd., Ste. 205.

The project started in December 2010. Fishers resident Dr. Debra Redd was diagnosed with breast cancer, according to a news release. Her children, Deybrian and Phil Redd started a project with the aim of giving not only their mother, but other cancer patients, messages of hope.

The two children drafted the help of their teachers to rally students to their cause, and Annette Probst, a fifth-grade teacher at SCI, still continues the activity.

“It’s important for the children to learn different ways of giving back to the community,” Probst said in the news release. “This started out as a way to help one of my students work through a difficult situation and turned into a project that will continue to touch lives for years to come.”

The works of art won’t be just for decoration at the center. Patients have the opportunity to bring one of the works home once they “graduate” treatments.
