Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel will be the site of the Indiana Canine Assistant Network’s 10th annual golf outing fundraiser on June 27. Each year, ICAN invites golfers of all abilities to come together and compete in a golf scramble to help raise money to fund its service dog program.
In addition to the usual activities associated with golf outings, like longest drive and closest to the pin competitions, ICAN offers a unique twist. Service dogs are present throughout the course for photo ops and skills demonstrations. During the dinner and awards portion of the day, attendees will have an opportunity to learn more about ICAN’s mission and program and see the service dogs in action. Clients will also be on hand to share their stories about how ICAN and these service dogs have made a positive impact on their lives.
“This golf outing at Prairie View will be a great event and the camaraderie with friends will be fun. But the real benefit to playing is knowing that you are making it possible for someone living with a disability to live a fuller life with a service dog by their side,” ICAN Executive Director Sally Irvin said.
ICAN is a non-profit organization created in 2002 by Irvin with the intent of creating powerful and positive connections between at-risk individuals, animals and people with physical and developmental disabilities. The training program teaches inmate handlers discipline and compassion for others along with other life skills that will help them upon their release.
