Carmel resident Allison E. Bates has received the 2013 Comcast Leaders & Achievers Scholarship. The award recognizes high school seniors for their outstanding leadership skills, high academic performance and participation in community service projects.

State Rep. Steve Braun (R-Zionsville) congratulated Bates on the award, which was presented by First Lady Karen Pence at the Indiana Statehouse.

“I extend a big congratulations to Brebeuf student Allison Bates on receiving this award,” Braun said. “She is clearly a student leader and is someone who gives back to her community.”

Since 2000, Comcast has reached out to high school guidance counselors and principals to recognize the brightest seniors as the nation’s “leaders and achievers.” Since 2001, Comcast has awarded about $19 million in scholarship funds to more than 19,000 students across the nation. Bates, who attends Brebeuf Jesuit, was one of 49 Hoosier students to receive the $1,000 award.
