Riverside School evacuated

FFD and FPD responded to a smoke alarm at Riverside Intermediate and Junior High School last Tuesday.

They were dispatched for a general smoke alarm at 9:15 a.m., and about 2,000 students were evacuated at the building (10910 Eller Rd.), according to a news release from FFD.

No injuries were reported from the incident.

FFD found that a furnace blower fan in a furnace room on the building’s second floor was the culprit in filling the cafeteria and surrounding hallways with smoke.

The blower fan in question was “isolate and marked out of service by HSE maintenance staff.”

Once the school was ventilated it was reopened.
