52-year Wait Ends. Local Hero Earns Scouting’s Highest Training Honor – Zionsville resident and WWII veteran Floyd Schultz (left) was bestowed Scouting’s highest honor for leader training, the Wood Badge. Schultz earned the award in 1961, but never received it. Cubmaster Tom Sugar (right), secured the long-awaited honor for Schultz and both men received their Wood Badge achievement at a special Cub Scout Pack 105 ceremony with more than 200 attendees. To earn his award, Schultz was required to survive for seven days in a deep forest with only a knife, flint for starting fires, a compass and clothing. No tent or food was provided. “It was a special honor for the Scouts, leaders and parents of Pack 105 to witness this significant event,” Sugar said. “Floyd Schultz has devoted his life to the service of others as a veteran, firefighter, and Scoutmaster - without question he is a local hero.” (submitted photo)
