Zion Nature Center’s Announces April Programs

 The Zion Nature Center will host a series of family-friendly programs in April.

April 4: Spring Migration Bird Hike: Thursday, 8 to 10 a.m. (Families) – Join us for a spring migration bird hike in Zionsville’s Starkey Park. Local birder Rob Ripma will lead us in search of resident and early migrant birds. This hike is for beginning and advanced birders and we welcome families who are on spring break. We will meet in the parking lot off Sugarbush Drive. Registration is required at www.ZionNatureCenterFriends.org Free.

April 12: Worm Animal Adventures, Friday, 10 to 11 a.m. (Ages 3-6) – Meet at the library for a fictional story then walk to the Zion Nature Center to learn some facts about worms. Dress appropriately for the weather. Weekday parking is not allowed at the nature center. Register at 873-3149 ext. 11600 or www.zionsville.lib.in.us. Free.

April 13: The Turtles are Awake, Saturday, 11 a.m. (All Ages) – The turtles are out of hibernation and ready for spring! Come meet our resident box turtles, learn some facts and observe their hungry appetites after their long winter naps. April 16: Rain Gardens Care & Maintenance, April 23: Rain date, Tuesday, 1 to 3 p.m. (Adults) – This workshop will provide basic information on rain garden use and installation but will focus on long-term care and maintenance to ensure the success of your garden. Myrene Brown will lead this workshop which features a presentation followed by a hands-on field component. This free program will take place at Zionsville Town Hall located at 1100 W. Oak St. Participants will receive a free native plant compliments of Zionsville’s Storm Water Dept. Registration is required at www.ZionNatureCenterFriends.org.

April 17: Spring Wildflower Hike, April 24: Rain date, Wednesday, 11 a.m. (Adults) – Join Myrene Brown for a hike in Starkey Park to discover what Indiana wildflowers are in bloom. After the hike, a short walk will take you to Myrene’s home where you can view the integration of several spring ephemeral wildflowers in her gardens. We will meet in the parking lot off Sugarbush Drive in Zionsville. Registration is required at www.ZionNatureCenterFriends.org or by calling 317-873-8950. Free.

April 21: Z’GreenFest, Sunday, 2 to 5 p.m. (All Ages) – Celebrate Earth Day/Arbor Day at our seventh annual Z’GreenFest. The Friends of Zion Nature Center and Boone REMC are sponsoring this festival featuring more than 20 organizations that inspire “green” living. There will be non-stop musical entertainment, hands-on activities, live animals, and games for all ages to enjoy. This event will take place at the Zion Nature Center located at 690 Beech St. (Rain location: Zionsville Town Hall, 1100 W. Oak St.) More information can be found at www.ZionNatureCenterFriends.org.
