Westfield Mayor Andy Cook announced today the appointment of the new Westfield Fire Chief. Cpt. Jason Lemons, 43, a 13-year veteran of the Westfield Fire Dept., has been named fire chief effective immediately. Lemons will be replacing Todd Burtron, who has been serving dual roles as mayor’s chief of staff and fire chief for the past 18 months. Burtron will remain chief of staff. The announcement was made by Cook and Burtron at a WFD staff meeting this morning at 10 a.m.

“Jason is a proven leader and will be a tremendous asset to our executive team,” said Cook. “He is well respected in the fire service community and I’m confident he will take the Westfield Fire Dept. to the next level.”

Lemons, a 23-year veteran of the fire service, will lead the 72 member Fire, Rescue and Emergency Medical Service Dept. Within the department, he has held the ranks of lieutenant, captain and deputy fire chief.

He has an Associate’s Degree in fire science and is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in emergency management, and he holds numerous state and federal certifications. Lemons has been an Emergency Medical Technician since 1992 and an Advanced EMT since 1997. He served as the departments Technical Rescue Team Leader from its inception in 2008 and is currently a member of Indiana Task Force One.

He is a member of the National Fire Protection Association, International Association of Fire Chiefs, International Association of Fire Fighters, Indiana Fire Instructors Association, Board member for IVY Tech Community College Public Safety Program, and is an elected official and Board President for Harrison Township Advisory Board.

Lemons and his wife, Tonya, have two children, Brooke and Ben.
