Do you have a misbehaving mutt or just want to know more about how your dog thinks?

January is National Train Your Dog Month and the Association of Pet Dog (APDT) trainers is offering a month full of free webinars to help you develop that special bond with your dog.

A well-trained dog is less likely to garner complaints from the neighbors for problem barking in the apartment or lunge-barking at other dogs when you are out on your daily walks.

Trained dogs can fit perfectly into your lifestyle, whether it is relaxing comfortably on their blanket while you entertain company, engaging in play with the kids or accompanying you on your weekend jogs.

Dogs also love participating in their own activities such as agility, lure crossing or nose work. The appropriately challenged and stimulated dog is not only a happy dog but also a tired dog that is more than ready to snooze at the end of the day.

Perhaps more importantly, trained dogs are less likely to be re-homed, or worse, surrendered to a shelter because “it’s just not working out.”  Visit the Association of Pet Dog Trainers website at www.trainyourdogmonth.com for a schedule of webinars such as Fun Activities for Your Dog, Canine Intelligence, Therapy and Service Pets, and Choosing a Trainer, among other helpful topics.
