Socializing with SCHC

0

There is no building with a big sign out front.  No meeting hall with pictures of past presidents hanging in the front lobby.  But, when Shepherd’s Center of Hamilton County members get together, it doesn’t matter where “here” is.  It is only important that they are together with friends in a vibrant, caring, social atmosphere.

The Shepherd’s Center of Hamilton County is a nonprofit agency which enables those 55 years young and older to remain living independently for as long as possible with the help of volunteers.  Executive Director Nancy Schell along with her volunteer staff and dedicated Board of Directors, work hard to advocate for older adults by ministering to their spiritual, physical, and personal well-beings.  The Center has been operating since 1985.

Nancy and her team make sure there are plenty of activities to meet the goals of the organization.  Two primary programs attract a large number of seniors looking for social interaction.  The Together Today Social Program is offered in Westfield, Noblesville and Sheridan.  In Westfield, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. every Tuesday, the group gets together at the Westfield Christ United Methodist Church for games, entertainment and a catered lunch.  The same program also takes place in Sheridan at the Spicewood Gardens Clubhouse on the last Friday of every month.  And for those who can get to Noblesville’s Meredith Meadows Community every Wednesday, the same program takes place.  Program Coordinator volunteer Alice Frausto handles all of the details in Westfield and Diane Murphy is the Program Coordinator for the Noblesville event.  Anyone claiming he has lived 55 or more years on this planet is welcome to attend at the event nearest to you.

The second major program sponsored by the SCHC is Community Caring.  Wanda Smith heads up this program which matches volunteers willing to donate time and energy to provide basic services to seniors still living in their homes.  Basic chores like yard work, laundry, rides to appointments, grocery shopping and other tasks all performed by community volunteers.  Shepherd is always looking for people 20-years-old and up who are willing to provide some help around the house.

Finally, on Dec. 11 at 11:30 a.m. at Christ United Methodist Church in Westfield, the 2nd Annual Shepherd Center Holiday Party will take place. Make sure to RSVP at 674-8777.
