A string of terrifyingly awesome, bad decisions

0

Sometimes people make decisions that they know are against their own good.

I’ve been doing so all along this past month.

What’s the best bad decision I’ve made in the past few weeks?

I’ve re-entered the dangerous world of Netflix, and with that, caught up on an entire season of AMC’s “The Walking Dead.”

Let’s face it:  Everyone enjoys a good scare from the safety of the couch, and with Halloween here, it’s just what the doctor ordered.

The production value of the show is impressive. The acting is great. The characters, while mostly one-dimensional, are compelling. Most of all, it is a harrowing story that paints a bleak picture of society without true law.

Thanks to all those factors, I’ve experienced a number of nightmares that seem all too real.

Americans are obsessed with all things zombies. Books are written about the phenomenon that brings down humanity, no matter how smart we are or how hard we work. Television and the movies put it out there for the masses to get a truly visceral experience. Some do better than others.

The best ones make you doubt yourself and wonder about how safe you are in your own surroundings.

I’m not going to lie, at the end of an episode of “The Walking Dead,” I feel paranoid.

The question I now pose is simple, and if your imagination is vivid, probably a little fun to think about.

Could Fishers survive a zombie apocalypse?

There are plenty of grocery stores to provide sustenance, and the many thoroughfares around town could provide ample escape routes. FPD is in a central location and would be well equipped, especially with EMS headquartered nearby.

Have fun coming up with your own Fishers zombie survival plan. I’ll keep making the bad decision and continue scaring myself with “The Walking Dead.”

Happy Halloween!

Thank you to those who wrote in and applied to be the “slice-of-life” columnist. Unfortunately, I can’t take on every applicant as a columnist, so I’m in the decision process now. Feel free to stop by my coffee hours at Hearthstone Coffeehouse & Pub on 116th Street just west of town hall every Tuesday from 3 to 5 p.m.
