Terwilliger named president of IU Health Methodist, University Hospitals

Indiana University Health has announced James G. Terwilliger, who has been serving as senior vice president and chief operating officer for IU Health Methodist and University hospitals in an interim capacity, now has been appointed president of IU Health Methodist and University hospitals on a permanent basis.

In this position, Jim is responsible for all clinical and operational aspects of the two institutions. He will work closely with medical staff, physician leadership, and administrators to fully realize the strength of both hospitals.

“Jim’s patient-centered, collaborative style and deep healthcare leadership experience will ensure that IU Health Methodist and University hospitals continue to deliver the high-quality patient care and assurance that we have promised our patients,” said Daniel F. Evans, president and CEO, IU Health.

Jim joined IU Health in June 2011 as vice president for Cancer Services. Before that, he served as executive vice president for the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) Cancer Centers in Pittsburgh, the largest community/academic oncology network in the country. His extensive healthcare leadership experience also includes serving as vice president of Operations for UPMC’s flagship, Presbyterian Shadyside Hospital; as chief operating officer for University of Southern California University Hospital in Los Angeles; and as associate director for the UCLA Hospital System. He has a Master of Public Health degree from University of California, Los Angeles.
