Seeing – again – is believing

Slowly, her world is turning to black. Lost to her are the vivid, crystal clear images she remembers from just a few short years ago. Her rainbow of color includes dingy shades of gray. Relying on her damaged eyes, driving is out of the question. And she long ago gave up a good book on a chilly Sunday afternoon. Carmel resident Frances Dager was losing her precious eyesight. Would she ever look up in the sky and see the stars again?

Fortunately for Frances, the Cornea Research Foundation founded by Francis and Marianne Price, developed a technique to restore the use of her eyes. Frances Dager successfully underwent a cornea transplant and will be able to once again, enjoy the simple pleasure of seeing and seeing clearly. She said, “I am so happy I received a transplant. My eyesight has been deteriorating over such a long period of time I did not realize all that I have been missing. I am grateful to Dr. Price and The Foundation for the gift of vision.”

Frances has experienced a recovery process that is taking just weeks instead of a year due to the strides being made in improving the cornea transplant techniques. Frances realizes the procedure she just received is due to the generous support of benefactors to the Cornea Research Foundation. They receive no government support, but instead rely on individuals to fund continuing research and improvement to the procedures.

On Friday, September 28, 2012 at the Renaissance Indianapolis North Hotel a benefit luncheon will take place to raise money for the cause. The 5th Annual Cornea Research Luncheon will feature an art auction of handcrafted items from local professional artists. “Through Our Eyes” is the theme and tickets can be purchased for just $40 or $300 for a table of eight. The luncheon will also include a special tribute to long-time supporter Marianne Glick. For more information [email protected] or 317-814-2993.

Founded in 1988, the Cornea Research Foundation of America is an internationally known research and educational organization with a mission to give people back the use of their eyes. It is the clinical research which is making a difference in the lives of so many people in Indianapolis and around the world. The Foundation has conducted over 100 clinical research studies and authored more than 150 journal articles with the focused goal of saving eyesight.

From now on, only clouds can keep Frances from enjoying the stars.
