Westfield Festival mixes fun and safety activities

Area residents will have the opportunity for some family fun while taking advantage of a variety of health- and safety-related activities at the fourth annual City of Westfield Safety Festival. The event, sponsored by Franciscan St. Francis Health–Carmel and Franciscan Immediate Care–Village Park Plaza, runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15 at Village Park Plaza in Westfield.

Under its tent, Franciscan St. Francis will offer fun health-related activities for youngsters, including a “Passport to Safety” game featuring “Let’s Pretend X-ray”, agility tests and hand washing demonstrations. Screenings for blood pressure and bone density, fall prevention and mammogram scheduling will be offered to adults.

Also on this year’s program are demonstrations by Midwest Search Dogs, Westfield Police Department canine unit and Westfield Fire Department, as well as CPR demonstrations by Franciscan St. Francis and fire department experts. State Farm Insurance will have a large mobile unit to demonstrate roadway hazards to teenage drivers, including semitrailers’ blind spots, texting and impaired driving. Giveaway items will be available.
