Carmel School Board honors students, teachers

What happened: The School Board passed a motion to raise text book rental fees.

  • What it means: Students in the challenge program will have to pay more for textbooks; new titles were added to meet PARCC requirements. Books are for students in challenge program. The motion excludes students in free or reduced lunch program.

What happened: The Board passed wage payment agreement for teachers.

  • What it means: Teachers will choose their pay period as either every 21 or 26 days.

What happened:  The school board honored threeCarmelHigh school students for receiving perfect ACT scores. Principal John Williams presented the students, two of whom were in attendance. The students were Jessica Pena, Tony Tan and Jonas Wang.

What happened: The Board honored Angelika Becker as The German Teacher of the year. She was presented by John Williams. This is an award from the state ofIndiana. Teachers are nominated either by their fellow teachers or administration.

What happened: The Board discussed and tabled Strategic Plan No. 3 – Technology to support Strategic Plan.

  • What it means:  Board discussed a PowerPoint about a set plan for technology in the district. The PowerPoint mentioned there are no clear guidelines or goals for technology in the district for students, parents and faculty.
  • What’s next: The Board tabled the plan until the next regular meeting, which is Sept. 10. A special session is planned for Sept. 5.
