Westfield High School graduate Kait Flederbach, daughter of Mark and Lynda Flederbach, finished sixth with a time of 25.13 in the women’s 50m freestyle finals at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials.

“I was kind of nervous for my 100m free,” said Flederbach, who just completed her sophomore year at University of Arizona. “But for this 50m, I don’t think I’ve ever been so excited to swim and I’m just so pumped.”

Flederbach said the best part of her Trials experience has been seeing how “incredible” her Arizona teammates have done. She competed against three of her teammates, Margo Geer (Milford Center, Ohio), Laura Jackson (El Paso, Texas) and Christine Magnuson (Tinley Park, Ill.) in the 50m free finals.

“It was so exciting,” Flederbach said of competing against her teammates. “I like competing against people I know. It makes it easier because they’re your friends.”

Flederbach also finished 22nd in the women’s 100m free preliminaries at the Olympic trials.
