Needlepoint Class

May 7, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. with instructor Linda Burkhart, owner of Elegant Needlework. There is no cost for the class, only for the supplies if needed. Contact Linda for details at 765-284-9427.

 

NEW: Tai Chi, Level 1

Tuesdays and Thursdays through May 24, 10 to 11 a.m. BCSSI, along with the Arthritis Foundation, will offer free Tai Chi classes. Participants are not required to attend each class. The instructor, Laura Michel, health promotions coordinator from American Senior Communities, will focus on improving flexibility and relieving arthritis pain and stress. Space is limited. NEW: Computer Help For Rookies

May 8, 1 to 3 p.m. Do you want to know more about computers and how to use them, but you aren’t sure what questions to ask? Get one-on-one instruction with basic computer skills from BCSSI staff member Frances Thurston in the computer lab at BCSSI. Walk-ins welcome.

 

NEW: Bereavement Support Group

Fourth Tuesday of each month, 1 to 2:30 p.m. “Working through Grief” is for those who have recently experienced the loss of a loved one. This is an open support group. You may attend any of the meetings or just some of the meetings. There is no cost to attend. Registration is not required, but would be appreciated. Contact BCSSI to register.

 

Lunch and Learn

May 9, noon to 1 p.m. Join us for “Remember When …” Judy Walburn from Boone County Historical Society will share a collection of priceless photographs from Boone County. Lunch, which is free to the first 25 registrants, will be provided by Essex Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

 

Les Girls Craft Group

May 9, 1 to 3 p.m. Do you enjoy sewing, appliquéing, knitting or crocheting? Do you have a craft you think others might enjoy making? Bring it along and share ideas with the group.

 

Bridge and Euchre

Wednesdays, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. immediately following Lunch and Learn. Location will vary based on facility usage. For more information, contact Olive Wade at 765-325-2436.

 

Fun Fridays in May

Fridays in May, 1 to 3 p.m. May is “Older American” month. The theme this year is “Never Too Old to Play.” There will be games, prizes, refreshments and entertainment.

  • May 11: BINGO! Who doesn’t enjoy playing BINGO?
  • May 18: Board Games and Nintendo Wii. Thanks to the Spiel Foundation, BCSSI has some fun, new board games just for seniors. We will also have some traditional choices such as checkers. If you are more interested in high-tech and faster paced games, BCSSI has a variety of Wii Games.
