Two years before Carmel became the City of Carmel the Carmel Woman’s Club was up and running. Organized as a charitable not-for-profit club the Carmel Woman’s Club has been active in service to the community for forty years. The purpose of the club is to stimulate interest in good government, education, the cultural arts and the general welfare of the community. Membership in the club is open to all women interested in actively participating in community service.
The Carmel Woman’s Club puts on an annual “Dessert and Card Party” in the month of May. This event raises the funds needed to support the club’s primary philanthropic project “Scholarships for Women”. Each fall and spring semester the club awards two $750.00 scholarships to adult women from Hamilton County who are pursuing a higher level of education in a discipline that will benefit them and their community. These scholarships are awarded based on previous school achievement, character, goals and financial need. Over a period of sixteen years forty-three scholarships have assisted women from the Carmel community to attain their goal of a better education.
This year the “Dessert and Card Party” will be held on Wednesday, May 9th at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in the Social Hall from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. Come to the party, bring your friends, enjoy an afternoon of cards, table games or just good company and partake of coffee, tea, cheese, fruit and assorted desserts. A quilt, gift baskets and hand-made jewelry will be raffled and perennial plants will be available for sale. Please call 317-844-1395
for reservations. A table of four costs $32.00, a single admission $8.00.
