An allegedly intoxicated driver might have put two Carmel schools on a two-hour delay Thursday morning.

At approximately 4 a.m. Thursday morning, the Carmel Police Department responded to a one-vehicle accident in the area of Gray Road and Kingswood Drive.  According to CPD, Jay D. Gala, a 26-year-old male from Carmel, drove off the roadway and struck a utility pole and a tree with his 2008 Nissan.  The pole he struck knocked out power from approximately Gray Road to River Road between 126th Street and 106th Street.  Gala was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated and was transported to the Hamilton County Jail on a $2,500 bond.

Later Thursday morning, Carmel Clay Schools tweeted “Woodbrook and Clay Middle School are on two-hour delays due to power outages earlier this morning.”

Lt. Jeff Horner of CPD said he believes the delays were related to the one-vehicle accident.
