When Jennifer Pickett and Robin Walsh’s daughters met just a few years ago,
they had no idea their children’s friendship would blossom their relationship into
starting a fund at the Purdue University Center for Cancer Research. Both Jenny and Robin
have lost parents to pancreatic cancer and decided as a team, to create a fund to raise
money and awareness for the disease.
Jennifer (Jordan) Pickett lost her mother, Joyce Fox Jordan, 18 years ago to pancreatic
cancer and was able to lend support to Robin (Rieger) Walsh as she was going through the loss
of her father, Robert Rieger.
15 years after their parents’ deaths there has been little progress in the cancer’s treatment. Jenny decided to use her strong family history with Purdue and Robin’s fundraising experience to host the organization’s first Live and Silent Auction Dinner in 2008.
Nov. 5 they will host the 4th Annual Live and Silent Auction Dinner for the
Jordan-Rieger Fund for Pancreatic Cancer at Marian, Inc. in downtown Indianapolis.
Thanksto these events, the organization has raised over $90,000 for pancreatic cancer research happening at Purdue and Indiana University.
The event includes live and silent auctions, dinner, bidding, and entertainment by the
Carmel High School Ambassadors Show Choir, hosted by Gerry Dick from Inside Indiana
Business, WFYI-20.
