Stand by your phone! The Carmel Education Foundation will be calling! Hosting its 25th Annual Telethon February 15 – 17, 2011 to raise funds for education grants, the CEF invites you to be generous with your silver as they celebrate their silver anniversary. Tune in and call in during the live broadcast on Brighthouse CHTV (Channel 99) Thursday, February 17 from 6 – 9pm.

“We are thrilled to announce Channel 13 newscaster Anne Marie Tiernon and businessman Jeff Worrell have agreed to emcee,” said Barb Danquist, Telethon co-chair. “The live show Thursday evening features elementary and middle school choirs as well as music ensembles performing in the Dale E. Graham Auditorium at Carmel High School.”

Guest appearances include Carmel Clay Schools Superintendent Dr. Jeff Swensson, CCS teachers and students, and local business and civic leaders. Students and other volunteers will dial for dollars from 4:00 to 8:30pm from February 15 through February 17.

According to Stephanie McDonald, Telethon co-chair, “Telethon contributions are distributed to teachers through education grants which help them develop new curriculum, access new technology, and create value-added educational opportunities for Carmel Clay students.”

Some past programs funded by CEF are:  Art Smart Students, Lyrical Language of Literacy, Carmel Elementary School ALL-STAR After School Club, Algebra Success For All, TechHOUNDS and Operation Safe School. To make a donation, go to http://www1.ccs.k12.in.us/foundation, mail a donation (check or credit card) to CEF, 5201 E. 131st St. Carmel, IN 46033 or friend us on Facebook.

CEF, a funding partner with Carmel Clay Schools, strives to maintain and increase excellence through charitable donations distributed to enhance academic opportunities for children and teachers. More than 10 years ago, CEF augmented its programs to include awarding teacher grants.  Although CEF will continue to allocate scholarships, the board is shifting its focus toward raising funds for the grant program.  CEF desires to impact hundreds of CCS students each year.
