Indianapolis, IN — Community Health Network once again ranks among the top 100 most integrated health care networks in the nation, according to SDI, which announced the SDI 2011 Top 100 IHNs in its 14th annual report.  Community, the only Indianapolis hospital system (and one of only 2 in Indiana) to make the top 100, ranks 20th according to the report, considered the nation’s premier rating system of integrated health care networks (IHNs).  Health care networks are evaluated on performance and degree of integration.

The 2011 SDI report, published in the January 24th issue of Modern Healthcare, identifies the top 100 IHNs among 576 non-specialty, local and regional networks in the country that are able to operate as a unified organization in eight key categories:   integration; integrated technology; contractual capabilities; outpatient utilization; financial stability; services and access; hospital utilization; and physician participation.

The SDI report grades health networks using a 100-point scale. Community Health Network’s total score was 85.79. The highest-ranked integrated health care system, Sentara Healthcare in Norfolk, Va., received a total score this year of 93.17.

“Our patients and families expect that when they access care, it’s going to be coordinated and integrated,” said Bryan Mills, president and CEO of Community Health Network.  “We are committed to providing that model, and are in the process of realigning our system to redesign it in an integrated fashion from the eyes of the consumer.  This is something we’ve been working on and will continue to work on.”

Community Health Network has been among the top 100 most highly integrated health networks since the inception of the SDI IHN 100—fewer than 20 networks have ranked the entire 14 years.  Community has been on the top 20 list nine of those 14 years, and outperforms or matches most integrated health networks in the key categories.
