Assistant Police Chief Tim Green will take over for the retiring Carmel Police Chief Michael Fogarty in 2011.  The appointment was made by Mayor Jim Brainard.

Green has been with the Carmel Police Department for 29 years and served as the Assistant Chief since 1995.  On January 3, he will take over for Fogarty, who after nearly 15 years as Carmel’s chief, will retire.

“I know Chief Fogarty will be missed by his department and colleagues at the city and throughout the law enforcement community. He has been instrumental in making the Carmel Police Department one of the most professional and well respected forces in the country. I have faith that Assistant Chief Green will be able to continue the tradition of excellence that was established under Chief Fogarty,” Brainard said .

Fogarty has served Carmel since 1996, when Brainard appointed him to head the Carmel Police Department.

FogartyBefore coming to Carmel, Chief Fogarty was serving as Deputy Chief at the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, where he had worked since 1968. While at IMPD, Fogarty also served as a Public Information Officer. While with IMPD, Fogarty moved to the Carmel community in 1972 and has been a resident here since that time.

While with Carmel, Chief Fogarty initiated many programs that helped our community get to know our police force better. The Citizen’s Police Academy, Teen Academy and Police Explorer’s Program allowed citizens to learn directly from our law enforcement officers various aspects of police work in our community. In addition, the Neighborhood Crime Watch has seen a steady increase in participation under Chief Fogarty. “Getting the community actively involved with its police department is important to increasing safety overall in Carmel,” said Chief Fogarty.

Assistant Chief Green has been a member of the Carmel Police Department for nearly 30 years.  Prior to his appointment to Assistant Chief, Green served as a Division Commander for the Special Investigations Division and was the Director of the Hamilton County Drug Task Force for two years.  Green has also worked in the investigations division including six years in the narcotics field.  Green has also worked as a patrol supervisor and as a Field Training Officer.

Assistant Chief Green is a graduate of North Central High School and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Law Enforcement Management from Calumet College. Tim is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico Virginia, the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Seminar in Quantico Virginia, and the Indiana Association of Chiefs of Police Executive Leadership Academy.

Assistant Chief Green has resided in Carmel since 1982. He is married to Brigit, and they have 2 children, Jessica 21, and Evan 19.
