Westfield Police join holiday effort for kids

Westfield Police Department (WPD) will be joining Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 103, which represents police officers throughout Hamilton County and Indiana, in their “FOP COPS and KIDS” holiday event on Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010.  With the help of donations, the WPD will brighten the holiday season for several needy families in the City of Westfield by taking children shopping and purchasing winter clothing items and gifts.  Without this program, deserving and underprivileged families and their children would be forced to do without during the Christmas season.

The Police Department is working with the Westfield Schools and the Westfield Youth Assistance Program to choose children for the event.  All families participating are carefully pre-screened and accepted based on their needs and current family situations.  Typically, items purchased consist of much-needed winter clothing, including coats and shoes.

A major source of funding for this event is the local Westfield business community and the generous financial participation of citizens.  “The Westfield Police Department is thrilled to be involved with such an amazing program,” says Lt. Bobbie Gorrell of the WPD.  “It is such an honor to be able to touch the lives of so many during the holiday season.”

The donation cutoff date is November 12, 2010, but the police department will continue to accept donations for the 2011 program.  For more information or to make a donation, please contact Lt. Bobbie Gorrell at 317-804-3200.  Donations can be dropped off or mailed to the Police Department at 17535 Dartown Road, Westfield, IN 46074.
