Noblesville residents will have the opportunity to taste items from local restaurants while funddraising for North Elementary School’s PTO.
Savor Noblesville, a food-tasting fundraiser, will return for the second year from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Jan. 23 at The Mill Top Banquet and Conference Center, 802 Mulberry St.
North Elementary Principal Rob Lugo said the event was created because the administration realized the school was frequently asking families to fundraise for the PTO. North Elementary is a Title 1 school, which means it has a significant low-income population.
“We had a family who wanted to see if we could set some kind of fundraiser that would not ask for money from our families, so we set up a steering committee, and the idea was to fundraise in the community and provide a fun event the community members could come to,” Lugo said.
Last year, 35 food vendors, breweries and distilleries offered tasting options. Money was raised through ticket sales. Last year, Savor Noblesville raised $25,000 for the school’s PTO.
“That money was used to run our PTO budget,” Lugo said. “In the past, our PTO budget ran at about $12,000 a year, so this was double that. With other fundraising we had done, it enabled us at North to be able to provide all our PTO events for free. We used to charge for father/daughter dances, mother/son dances, all those activities.
“This allowed us not to charge anything for any families, and our family participation grew by double. Savor has been a wonderful thing for North.”
This year’s event includes food and beverage tasting and a silent auction. VIP entrance is available at 5 p.m. The VIP tickets are $60 and include early entry, wine and live music.
