Aptiv, a leading technology company, has announced its plans to open an engineering lab in Westfield, bringing 50 high-skilled jobs to the area.

The lab will focus on developing next-generation technology for connected vehicles.

“The team at Aptiv will be working on future-focused technology, and I could not be more excited to welcome them to Westfield,” Mayor Andy Cook stated. “These are exactly the types of high-tech investments we have been working to attract. This is a statement that our community can attract a diverse workforce to support this kind of innovation.”

Aptiv’s annual salary will be approximately $80,000. It plans to lease 53,000 square feet inside the Westfield Business Centre, 17001 Oak Ridge Rd., and it will invest more than $9 million in property and equipment. Engineering lab work will include environmental testing, product/material analysis and on-vehicle development.

“Aptiv is leading the development of advanced technologies that will make the world safer,

greener, and more connected,” stated A.J. Lasley, director of advanced safety and user experience at Aptiv. “We chose Westfield due to its location, business-friendly environment and quality of life.”

At its Oct. 14 meeting, the Westfield City Council approved a five-year personal property tax abatement phased in at 20 percent a year.

With the addition of Aptiv’s engineering lab, the Westfield Business Centre is now fully leased. The Westfield Business Centre is a 133,000-square-foot building which opened in October 2018. Other tenants include Grinds LLC, ETI Fab and 3rd Dimension Industrial Printing.
