Boone Village Halloween Party set for Oct. 29

The annual Oct. 29 Boone Village Halloween Party will present the Kids Imaginative Design Award in addition to selecting winners of a costume contest. 

The party will be at Boone Village Shopping Center from 5:20 to 7 p.m., beginning with a performance by the Zionsville Community High School Jazz Band.

Leigh Ann Akard is an event organizer and business owner at the shopping center.

“I remember coming to the event as a kid, and our store would move out to Boone Village in the ’70s,” Akard said. “I went as a kid. My kids went and now my grandkids go.”

The Kids Imaginative Design Award will be presented to a child for their own costume, using their own resources and imagination. There will b KID Awards given for children ages 5 to 7 and one for an age 8 category.

“The KID Award celebrates and encourages the imagination and resourcefulness of our community’s children,” Akard said.

Amy Lacy, an previous costume contest judge, and her husband created the KID Awards.

“We started in honor of my mom, Jackie Lacy, who was an artist and really encouraged me when I was a kid to be creative,” Lacy said.

The costume contest will begin at 6 p.m. First-, second- and third-place awards will be presented for age groups.

The party promotes a safe place to trick-or-treat with Boone Village Shopping Center merchants. Special guests include the Zionsville fire and police departments and the Boone County Sheriff’s Office.

Hot dogs will be available for those who make a donation to the Hero Family Outreach. The Zionsville Rotary Club will pass out popcorn.
